FAQs

Is this hot yoga?

No. All classes are held in a warm (70-ish degrees) room that is conducive to stretching. You will sweat in Ashtanga classes but the body is heated from within. Bringing a towel is a good idea.

Is there parking?

Yes! There is plenty of free parking in the lot.

How do I sign up for class?

Go to the home page and click on "Join a Class". Find the class you want and click  the sign up button. It will ask for your information including your credit card. You will not be charged for anything unless you authorize a purchase. Everyone's first class is free- type in FIRST-FREE in the coupon section. Follow the prompts to finalize your sign up.

Do I have to pay when I sign up for class online?

No, but it is easier if you do and it will make sure class starts on time. You can also choose to purchase class packages that will save you money on classes.

What is the teaching style at Tapas?

We teach safety first! No one wants to get hurt doing yoga, but like all forms of exercise there are risks. Practicing smart, being patient and not being forceful while under the watchful eye of an instructor is a great way to make sure you can do yoga until old age. Our students are given all the information they need to work safely in each pose. Consistent practice will bring  understanding and eventually mastery.

What about alignment?

We all have our own unique finger prints, DNA and yoga poses- at least in the beginning. Alignment is taught for safety but no one should try to look like anyone else in the same pose, at first. Our bodies are tight in different ways and two people who look the same in a pose are still feeling it differently inside. Getting the alignment of experienced teachers is an eventuality as the body becomes more flexible (as long as bone structure is not the inhibiting factor) and cannot be forced.

What if I'm late to class?

We don't want anyone to miss because they are 5- 1 0  minutes late. Come in and do some sun salutes to warm up then join the class. For your safety, the instructor will make sure you're warm enough before letting you join in.

What should I wear to yoga class?

You don't have to spend a fortune on clothes. Shorts and a t-shirt are fine as long as you can move in them and they are  covering you properly. Make sure shorts don't gape when sitting down with the feet spread wide apart or in butterfly position (soles of feet touching).  I recommend sports bras to conventional bras when possible. Being able to take full deep breaths is the most important part of yoga!
